Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that spurious drugs manufacturers, smugglers in drugs, minority killers like Gau Rakshaks, gangsters, adulterators should get stiff detention sentences for five years.

During these sentences they should serve on the LAC under military command. Their legal rights should be protected via video conferences.

This idea stems from the French Foreign Legion which was made of such scalawags. They were given military training and they served in the foreign colonies of France. These convicts or under trial prisoners should serve the armed forces in carrying out logistics to the highest posts and in case of attack they should be able to return the fire. They should be paid rupees fifty a day and this money should go directly to their bank accounts; only on release after their sanctioned sentences they should be allowed to withdraw the money in their bank accounts.

We say this because in the present jails they run amuck and the civil administration is incapable in maintaining their behaviour and security. Since prisoners perform all sorts of duties during their sentences in prisons, therefore as per these prison rules they can perform any duty given to them by the Army, Navy and Air Force commandants.

We think this system of the French Foreign Legion should be started on our frontier, so that they become reformed and responsible citizens after their term in prison gives over. Presently in the prisons the administration has lost control over these prisoners who guide heinous crime from within the stone walls and iron grilles of the prisons.
