The General migrated from Hindustan but was treated as an alien in the land he chose. – Simranjit Singh Mann

The Tribune dated 6th February 2023.

Comments by Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that we think that General Pervez Musaharraf was out of sync with the people he ruled as President and a General.

He hailed from Delhi which we people of the North have always associated with the territory we call Hindustan, that is North of the river Jamna.

During partition of 1947 those Muslims of Hindustan who migrated to their promised land Pakistan were never accepted as their own. They came to be referred to Muhajirs as against the Northern Punjabi’s, Pathan’s, Baluch, Sindhi’s.

But in the beginning the ties of Islam were so great that all immigrants from India came to be recognized as one Islamic people, though the Bengali Muslim of East Pakistan now Bangladesh was never accepted.

General Musaharaf must have felt his alien origin in the country he adopted. He has died in an alien land and not the Homeland of his choice. That is a pity, like the words of the last Mughal Emperor Bahadar Shah Zafar :

“kitnā hai bad-nasīb ‘zafar’ dafn ke liye,

Do gaz zamīn bhī na milī kū-e-yār meñ”.

However, we wish his family well and pray to Waheguru Sahib to bless his soul. May he rest in peace.
