Fighting insurgencies can attract commission of war crimes. – Simranjit Singh Mānn

Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that will the top military Commanders and their Defence Minister tell us why the Sikh Battalions and Sikh Light infantry regiments are going to be disbanded?
They must also tell us how a four year tenure for a soldier in the military will make him a full soldier in unarmed or armed combat? How will he become a complete soldier by learning all the techniques of modern war fare?
After a half-baked career in the military this half solder will invariably be attracted towards Maoism, Naxalism and Gangsterism.
Have any of the military Commanders fought in a war or a battle. Those who think have mastered insurgencies must realise that they have fought and killed their own countrymen. What is happening in Jammu and Kashmir is fighting against one’s own people and citizens. One day these horrific killings of civilians are likely to attract the accusations of war crimes.
Military Commanders assembled must read the Chilcot Report on the Iraq War. It was a close shave for the militaries participating in the Iraq War because they were strong military powers. But we can never say war crimes will never take place in fighting insurgencies under fickle laws like AFSPA ( Armed Forces Special Powers Act.) which defy article 21 of the Constitution which states that no person can be deprived of his life and liberty without following the procedure laid down by law. The Supreme Court is the guardian of the Constitution and if it is not taking cognizance of the crimes being perpetrated under the shield of AFSPA, one can never tell when the perpetrators and even the Supreme Court will be taken to task for not performing its duty as the guardian of the Constitution.
These are the perplexing questions that need to be thrashed out at the Military Commanders meet from 7th to 11th November, this year in Delhi.

The last question is what is the military doing in Ladakh to rid it of Communist China’s aggression? Why did the intelligence factor fail to alert the military prior to the PLA’s penetration into Ladakh in 2020? Who is responsible for the intelligence failure? Why haven’t heads rolled for this massive failure and humiliation?
When will there be a Henderson – Bhagat like report on the 2020 debacle?
