Bills can’t be passed without a debate in Parliament. Simranjit Singh Mānn, Member of Parliament

Press Statement of Simranjit Singh Mānn Dated 26th July 2023.

It is unfortunate that the Monson Session of Parliament which began on 20th July 2023 has not worked till today. There have been repeated adjournments. The deadlock is over the ghastly parading of women in Manipur which is ruled by the BJP-RSS Hindutva rightwing party. Besides the parade of women, of which one was a wife of an Army Subhedar, the burning of Christian Churches and violence against the minorities who are chiefly living in the hills has shamed all the civilized world. The people and the Opposition parties want Prime Minister Narendra to appear in Parliament, which is in session and declare his governments policy on these heinous crimes against women and the minorities.

However, the Speaker of the House Mr. Om Birla who presides over the House has not called the leaders of the Opposition and the Treasury Benches to resolve this issue. On the other hand the Speaker is giving a wide berth to the Treasury Benches to pass important Bills without a debate. This is an autocratic manner in which the Speaker is defying the norms of democracy.

Our party wants that Bills must only be passed after a debate in Parliament, which is not happening. We think the Speaker is misusing his authority and paving a path for a totalitarian regime like Hitler’s Nazi Party and his Reich. We do hope that a better sense will prevail and play the role of a mediator, which is his duty as the Speaker and not allow the Treasury Benches to pass legislation without a debate.

On the other hand the Sikhs have their own Parliament known as the SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) which came into being in 1925 by an act of law, it’s elections to its House have not been held for the last twelve years, whereby the present BJP-RSS Hindutva Union Government has indicated that the Sikhs must be denied their democracy and its practices. The Sikh Parliament SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) has become a Lame Duck Parliament.
