Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that this is a barbaric act of Lt. Governor Sinha of Jammu & Kashmir. Syed Ali Shah Geelani was a great national figure of Jammu & Kashmir. He fought for the right of self determination which is a fundamental UN right.
We are stating this with sadness and anguish that a Kashmiri patriot’s house has been sealed. It would be like any rabid Union Government of India sealing the houses of M.K. Gandhi, Jawhar Lal Nehru and Syama Prasad Mukherjee.
It would be wise of the Modi Union Government to repeal this order as it will inflame all peaceful freedom loving peoples of the world. Such actions will demean the status of the Hindu Indian state. We can say no more.
I being a Member of Parliament sought permission from the Director General of Prisons of Tihar Jail in Delhi to meet and see political prisoners- Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah and Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara. But permission was refused. I do not think that these are the manners and etiquettes of treating a popularly elected Member of Parliament like me. I do hope the Hindu Indian state rises to the occasion and adapts a more humane face to its functioning towards prisoners and elected Members of Parliament. Such humane actions become the safety valves of a pressure cooker.
Because our party supports the upkeep and preservation of Human Rights, I have been refused to visit this troublesome state of Jammu & Kashmir twice. My visit would only reduce temperatures of the Kashmiri Muslims, Sikhs and Pandits. But we live in sad and troubled times.
