To: The Editor,
The Tribune Group,
Chandigarh.
Sir,
Fateh,
We had consistently cautioned you not to put Mr. Ramdev’s advertisements on the first page as the God-man was a controversial figure and dealing with spurious herbs and other elements to unknown medicine. But your worthy paper continued to rebuke its readers by putting the God-man advertisements on the first page.
Our party wishes to inform you that though your editorship has moved to the right and you refer to Sikhs as “Designated Terrorists”, and don’t suffix their Singh name, we have tried to disassociate are selves with your newspaper.
But the fact is that since The Tribune is the oldest English language paper of the Punjab, we care for its clarity, good reporting and its worth to our region.
Unfortunately, you have not understood our appreciation for this paper and you have ridden rough shod over our reposts and our letters to the editor.
Now that the Supreme Court has held up this God-man, we think we were right and even the Prime Minister’s front page advertisements have belittled the worth of this paper as it appears a nouveau riche.
Mercifully you have obliterated the Prime Minister’s advertisements on the front top page of your paper for which we owe you are gratitude. The Sikhs and the Punjabis appreciate a high standard of print, journalism and aesthetics.
Yours faithfully,
Simranjit Singh Mann,
Member of Parliament,
President,
Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar).
