Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that today the people want jobs and employment. They want food. They want cooking material instead of women going out in the fields and collecting pieces of wood for cooking meals.

In the poverty stricken homes there is just one room where the family sleeps and in winter their cow or buffalo are also tethered to escape the cold.

The poor collect in groups in winter burning sticks and pieces of wood, light fires to warm themselves. Later in the day when the sun rises and there is warmth, they sleep in the sun and get over their sleep.

People want jobs, food, houses and a reasonable good life.

The Modi government should not bluff the people with Ram Temple’s as Marie Antoinette asked her maids what are the people crying for in the streets of Paris? The maids replied that the people want bread. Marie Antoinette shot back and asked them that if the people don’t have bread why are they not eating cakes?
