Failures in the field cannot make successful Military Commanders or the CDS. – Simranjit Singh Mann

The Tribune dated 06, May, 2022

States that the author General Kumar may have a point in moving the Union Government in appointing a CDS after the unfortunate death of General Rawat.
However, we have to see the calibre and battle and war worthiness and experience of the new incumbent.
General Rawat was appointed the CDS much before the battle of 2020, and preventable incursion of Communist China’s PLA into Ladakh in 2020.
Similarly the author thinks that General MM Naravane should have been elevated to the rank of CDS. But he too was a failure in anticipating the Communist China’s ingress. Preventing it, had he been ready or after the aggression pushed the PLA back to the LAC.
We think both these Generals should have been made responsible for this laxity in guarding the borders and should have been punished.
On the other hand the intentions of Communist China in entering Ladakh should also have been known to the R&AW, IB,Military Intelligence, National Security Adviser, Union Home Secretary and the diplomats of the foreign office, posted all over the globe.
But all of them failed the country in informing and keeping the PLA at bay.
Apart from the Foreign Office, Home Office and the Cabinet Secretary’s Office, they were all caught napping.
Instead of taking disciplinary action for their negligence and lackadaisical performance, the Director of IB, Directer of R&AW and Union Home Secretary were given an extra year of extension in service, which shows Premier Modi and his Cabinet reward failure and incompetence.
Further, General Kumar is comparing the post of Cabinet Secretary with the CDS.
Our Party feels that the supremacy the civil Government over the Military was decided long ago in the period of Governor General Curzon and the Commander- in – Chief kitchener.
Generals as Army Commanders and Chief’s of the Army should only be appointed with vast experience of fighting in battles, skirmishes and may be wars.
They should not be judged by the weight of the medals they wear on their respective uniforms, like we see General Rawat in the picture of this article.
What General Kumar must tell us why General Rawat and General Naravane failed to keep the borders safe from intruding Communist China’s PLA?
We must know that the role of the armed forces is to train for war and fight it with success, there is no other role for the armed forces but this very principle. They should also be above communal feelings in both spirit and deed.
For this massive failure in protecting the borders, the heads of politicians responsible for this shame and debacle should also roll.
Unfortunately the guillotine of the French Revolution is no longer in use.
