Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that The Tribune as usual has tried to defame the Sikh farmers struggle by stating that farmer Resham Singh committed suicide as he was in debt.

We ask why the Union Government has not taken steps to make the farmers free of debt just as Chaudhary Chotu Ram the Agriculture Minister of the Punjab before 1947 cancelled all the debts of the farmers which brought in prosperity and later the Green Revolution.
