Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that Lt. Gen. Raj Sujlana (Retd) has written an article on Sikh politics which are always revolving and always in a flux and never static. Let us forget how the British cheated the Sikhs in 1947 out of a separate independent sovereign Sikh state though by the Anglo-Sikh treaty of 1849 the British had to restore the sovereignty of the Sikh nation.
They did not fulfil their treaty obligation in 1947. It is wrong for the General to state that the British divided the composite Punjab in 1947. However, it were the Hindu leaders Gandhi and Nehru who did not want an United India along with the Muslim population. Therefore, British-India was divided into India for the Hindus and Pakistan for the Muslims. In both Hindu India and Muslim Pakistan the Sikhs became second class citizens, whereas during the British Indian Raj the Hindu, Muslim and the Sikh were the subjugated peoples and therefore they were equal in status.
The General blames Premier Justin Trudeau for picking up the issue of the Hindu Indian states assassination of a Sikh Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar, as the General says Premier Trudeau is politically weak and wants the Sikh vote in the next Parliament Election. If this is so then can we say the BJP-RSS led by Premier Narendra Modi before the 2019 general elections to Parliament sent in the Indian Air Force to bomb Balakot in Pakistan. This gave advantage to the Hindutva party to propagandise that the Hindu state had struck at the Muslims and within their Homeland Pakistan.
Now for the next Parliament election BJP-RSS under Premier Modi has enough material to tell the Hindutva masses that his government has had the vision and daring to commit extra judicial murders of Sikhs in Western countries like Canada, in Britain where Avtar Singh Khanda has been assassinated and in Islamic Pakistan Parmjit Singh Panjwar. We think Premier Modi is sharper than Premier Trudeau as the General thinks that Premier Trudeau’s motive is the forth coming election in his country. Apart from Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Ripudaman Singh Malik, Sukhdool Singh have also been assassinated in Canada’s Surrey and Winnipeg.
We don’t think such a bania like analysis becomes a General.
Generals in particular are not aware of the ground situation of even their troops in the battalions they command. After retirement they have no public contact and mere conjectures should be avoided.
Who says the Sikhs don’t want an independent Khalistan when in 1943 the Communist Party of India, its General Secretary Harkrishan Singh Surjit passed resolution for Khalistan. It was only in 1946 that the SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) unanimously passed a resolution for Khalistan. Just before his martyrdom along with General Subheg Singh the great Sikh leader Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawala called for an independent state of Khalistan.
The General says that only Canada alone has raked up the issue of assassinations of Sikhs in Canada. Canada is not alone and Britain, USA, Australia, New Zealand stand by it. Eversince the extra judicial execution of Sardar Hardeep Singh Nijjar the USA’s Justice Department and the FBI have issued an advisory for Sikhs which is in Punjabi and the Gurmukhi script. It is reproduced below:
Therefore, the General must know that Canada and the Sikhs don’t stand alone on this heinous crime against humanity. Otherwise the General admits that there is evidence in Sikh scriptures and history that the Sikhs should have a separate sovereign state. Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj states “ਇਨ ਗਰੀਬ ਸਿਖਨ ਕੋ ਦੈ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ”.
The General is against the democratic terminology of referendums. Therefore, he must be against the other tools of democracy like elections and plebiscite. For his information it was the Hindu states first Prime Minister Jawhar Lal Nehru who approached the UNSC for a plebiscite for Kashmir in 1948. What would the General say about this? Would he be against democracy and its tools whereby we can reach conclusions peacefully and safely?
We think Generals in service must save Ladakh from aggression where Communist China has seized 39,000 sq kms of territory in 1962 and another 10,000 sq kms in 2020 and 2022. In 1962 the territory of Kashmir Shaksgam Valley was given away to Communist China.
If the General states that now he is in retirement and cannot perform, we would quote the example of the Roman General Cincinnatus who came out of retirement, served the Roman Empire during a crisis and went back to his farm after beating away the aggressors.
As a tail piece we may write that The Tribune always publishes articles against the Sikh stand for liberty and sovereignty. We would wish it publishes this repost.
