We must not stagnate, be at the mercy of the radicalized Hindu Union BJP – RSS Government and explore the other option of opening the borders Wagha and Hussainiwala for export of our agricultural products. – Simranjit Singh Mānn

Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that we must not expect that after the coming into power in 1999 and subsequently in 2014 and again 2019 the majoritarian extremist Hindu BJP – RSS Union Government will give a fair deal to the minority Sikh peoples. Therefore, we must rally all the minorities, peacefully and democratically to have the BJP – RSS Union Government open Punjab’s borders at Hussainiwala and Wagha with Islamic Pakistan. By doing this the Punjab and its neighbouring states will be able to sell their agricultural products to not only Islamic Pakistan but countries lying to its West and North.
These countries are always short of wheat and Islamic Pakistan has ordered thousands of tons of wheat from Russia. It is ironic that with its borders with Punjab there would be no need to ask Russia for this commodity. Similarly the price of fine rice Banaspati in the Punjab is Rs. 1700 per quintal, whereas next door to Iran this very fine rice variety sells for Rs. 4000 to Rs 5000 per quintal.
The people of Punjab would be surprised to know that the Punjab farmer produces the best quality of potato seed. But all neighbouring countries of Hindu India import their potato seed from Holland. Why can’t we of the Punjab sell potato seed at a much lesser cost to these countries? As a Member of Parliament (1999 – 2004) I have lobbied to seek air condition freight carriers from the Union for our seed potato’s to be exported to these countries. But no matter how we Sikh’s battle for our economy but invariably we hit a concrete wall, meaning the majoritarians.
Besides our agriculture, dairy and meat production capacity, our transport sector will prosper, giving employment to thousands of our unemployed youth. With one stone we will bag two birds.
Our Party is of the opinion that this option should be seriously thought and examined by our farmers, agricultural experts and economists.
The Sikh’s as history tells us never say die. If one option closes, the Sikh’s open the other.
Well then let us get down to doing just this.
Facta non Verba.
