Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that our Party is not in favour of Defence or Military pacts, as they are dangerous and can result in wars, which now will be fought with nuclear weapons. In South Asia Islamic Pakistan, Hindu India and Communist China are nuclear armed states and forever at one another’s throats.
With the signing of this military pact between the US and Hindu India, if a nuclear war breaks out between these three nuclear armed states, the USA will not be effected. It will remain a spectator, as it did in the Anglo – Argentina war of the Falkland Islands. But if such a war breaks out between the three implacable foes of South Asia, the territories of the Sikh Homeland – Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh (U.T.), Rajasthan, Kutch in Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Leh and Ladakh will become the nuclear battlefield, resulting in the total and complete annihilation of the Sikh and Punjabi race. We think the USA should give a thought to the preservation of the Sikh’s and Punjabi peoples.
Our Party had also thought that the US will not sign a military pact with the Hindu Indian state as the Trump administration is presently a lame duck Government, as Presidential elections are just a week away, that being 3rd November, 2020. In working democracies like the USA such decisions are left to the results of the elections, as such a practice reduces the chance of embarrassment if the pact executing administration does not come to power again. A Punjabi saying states that those who are strong their multiplication of 7 multiplied by 20 makes a hundred. Since the Sikh’s are stateless at this juncture of their history, we will have to swallow what the most powerful state, that being the USA, says or does.
This pact our Party analyses will not lead to the settlement of the Afghanistan imbroglio which was envisioned by the USA at Doha in the Gulf.
There is another lacuna in this Indo – US pact. There is no guarantee that the US will extend a hand to the Hindu Indian state, if it is embattled with Communist China.
Earlier the US had military pacts between it and Islamic Pakistan. But when an war broke out in 1971 between Hindu India and Islamic Pakistan in which East –Pakistan was bifurcated from Islamic Pakistan, as assured to Islamic Pakistan the US merely stood on the fence watching the state of Bangladesh coming into being. However, the Nixon administration did give some solace to Islamic Pakistan as it sent its Aircraft Carrier Enterprise with its accompanying complement of worships and submarines to the Bay of Bengal.
With the signing of this pact we see the Hindu Indian state in a state of celebration and high morale though Communist China has occupied more territory in Ladakh since April this year. In yesteryears the Hindu state had surrendered 39,000 Sq. Kms to Communist China in 1962. Though USA lent some moral support to the Hindu state in its hour of doom, but physically it did nothing.
Our Party’s thinking is that if militarily the Hindu Indian state cannot stand on its feet, others despite alliances will do nothing or come to its aid. Therefore to be militarily efficient, the Hindu state will have to become economically strong, and then only it can face its opponents as its foreign policy will also become functional. Since 1947 when the Hindu state came into being its foreign policy and its fate was tied to the apron strings of Soviet Russia. Now, presently it is the tool of American foreign policy. We do not think that any Hindu Indian can be proud of this status.
The Sikh’s under these circumstances would also want some guarantees from the Super Powers and the UN Security Council for their security and well being in the event of a nuclear war breaking out in South Asia.
Facta non Verba.
