Shriomani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that the Sikh’s have had and have a deep interest and attachment to Ladakh. It must be known that Ladakh was annexed by the Lahore Darbar (Sikh Empire 1799 – 1849) in 1834. Thereafter, it became an integral part of the Sikh Empire. After its annexation the armies of the Sikh Empire turned their attention to territories North of Ladakh, that is Tibet and Xinjiang and perhaps further up North. However, when the British Indian Government got wind of this expansion, the British deployed their troops on the left bank of river Sutlaj, which marked the territory of British India and the Sikh Empire. Maharaja Ranjit Singh a great military strategist thought of withdrawing the march of the Darbar Troops north of Ladakh, ordered a halt of the north bound troops, so that the Darbar could defend its territory strongly if the British Indian Government wanted to try some mischief or adventurism. Therefore, the Darbar Troops were ordered to halt their march north of Ladakh.
It is worth mentioning that the Lahore Darbar (Sikh Empire 1799 – 1849) annexed Kashmir in 1819, whereas, prior to it, it was a province of Afghanistan. Since after the annexation of the Lahore Darbar (Sikh Empire 1799 – 1849) in 1849,by British India no country, no matter how militarily strong, whether it be the British, Soviet Russia and now the USA, has held on to Afghanistan. Today even the American troops are withdrawing and it is American policy that the entire armed garrison will withdraw before the American presidential election due in coming November. It must also be told that the Durand Line that divides Islamic Pakistan and Afghanistan runs approximately to the Sikh Empires territorial gains in the North towards Afghanistan.
However, it is a pity that the territories annexed by the Lahore Darbar (Sikh Empire 1799 – 1849) in 1819 and 1834, which in totality were handed over to the Hindu Indian state and Islamic Pakistan in 1947 on the breakup of the British Indian Empire, both Islamic Pakistan and Hindu Indian state have not been able to keep these territories in one piece. Hindu India since then has surrendered 39,000 Sq. Kms. of Ladakh to Communist China in 1962 and since April this year, the Hindu state has lost more territory in Ladakh. On the other hand Islamic Pakistan has voluntarily handed over areas above Gilgit and Baltistan to Communist China. Therefore, the cartography of the Sikh Empire should never be taken lightly as the two successor states to the British Indian Empire, Islamic Pakistan and Hindu India have not been able to guard and keep their legacy in one piece.
Communist China has nibbled away more territory in Ladakh since April 2000. The reason is that the Hindu Indian state since 1947 has indulged itself in corruption, hunting down its minorities, schedule castes, Adavasis or Tribal’s and wasting its resources in domestic maladministration, internal strife and attempting to turn the Hindu state into a fascist theocratic state.
The present military debacle in Ladakh would not have come about had the Hindu state not indulged itself in the malpractices pointed out above. For instance it cannot manufacture an infantry rifle domestically and has placed an order with the American firm SiG Saure for 72,400 infantry rifles.
Now presently since the Hindu state is making diplomatic efforts to have Communist China withdraw its PLA from the Line of Actual Control (LAC), it has not succeeded because of its poor economy resulting in a weak armament of its military and hence its diplomacy is at a standstill.
Since we are in the autumn of this year and in the coming few moths winter is nigh, Ladakh will be snow bound and inaccessible to road transport, we would suggest that the Union Government run by Premier Nerandra Modi should start stocking provisions for the military garrison guarding peaks above 16,000 feet above sea level.
Some great military strategist like Napolean, Fredric the Great of Prussia and Cladious Glealen have said that an army marches on its stomach. Therefore, we ask the BJP – RSS Union Government whether it has stocked all provisions military and domestic till May next year? The troops need Arctic clothing and tents. Are they equipped with the provision of receiving worm meals? Are sanitary conditions satisfactory? Have the military attaches posted in Canada sent any information on how the Eskimos build their igloos and how the Husky dogs pull sledges and how the infantry uses skis because all this information should have been sent long ago besides the military attaches in Moscow must have sent information how the Russian troops countered the German advance in the severe winter when Hitler launched his ill – advised Operation Barbarossa in World War II? Will the Russian made T- 90 Tanks bare the cold icy temperatures in Ladakh? Does the Hindu state have military Jets to counter the Sukhoi Su 35 and J- 20’s?
Is the animal transport of mules and yaks ready to carry munitions and provisions to the last post in the Himalayan heights? Fodder for the animals of the military and the civil population must be stocked. We are, in the Punjab, in the midst of paddy harvesting and the paddy stubble can be easily gathered and sent to Ladakh in civil transport now. This will not only boost the economy but would be essential for the military and civilian populace of Ladakh.
We write all this as the Sikh’s are concerned about Ladakh for historic reasons and for resolving the Ladakh issue both Hindu India and Communist China must have a Sikh delegation sit at the negotiating table, whenever, but sooner as possible as we do not want this squabble to turn into a nuclear war between three nuclear armed states – Islamic Pakistan, Hindu India and Communist China, as the Sikh and Punjabi inhabited territories – Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh (U.T.), Rajasthan, Kutch in Gujarat, Leh and Ladakh would become the theater of nuclear war ending in the complete and total annihilation of the Sikh and Punjabi race. The Sikh’s stand for peace in South Asia.
