Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) requests Union External Affairs Minister to take up the case of the Sikh headgear the turban with the French Government as France does not allow Sikhs to wear their turban in France. Simranjit Singh Mann
The Tribune dated 04th December 2020
Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that this is perhaps the first time the Hindu Indian state has brought the torture and massacres of the Sikh peoples to the notice of the United Nations. We are grateful.
Our party would also appreciate if the External Affairs Ministry in Delhi intervenes with the French Government which does not allow the Sikhs living in France to wear their traditional and cultural headgear the turban. The French Government states that it does not allow any religious symbol to be worn in their country. But the turban is not merely a religious symbol but it is also a traditional and cultural, which is worn all over South Asia, Middle East and parts of Africa.
It must also be known that the Sikh soldiers wearing their traditional headgear liberated the French in World War I and II. These Sikh soldiers lie buried in French and European Commonwealth cemeteries. Their laurels are written in all War Memorials.
We must also mention that all French bureaucrats, politicians, businessmen, military officers and the general French public wear the neck tie. This neck tie is also a Christian religious symbol as it depicts the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Therefore, we request Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar Union External Affair Minister to take up the case of the Sikh headgear the turban with the French Government as billions dollar worth of military wares are bought from France. We will be grateful.
