Press statement of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Quilla Sardar Harnam Singh, District Fatehgarh Sahib. PC 140406.
The Tribune dated 20 February 2020
Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that with the forthcoming visit of President Trump, we hope some of the Sikh issues will be sorted out. The Sikhs are a democratic people. Their Parliament which is named the Shiromani Gurdwara Committee came into being in 1925. However, the Union Government under Premier Narindra Modi has not carried out its elections for the last four years. It has been functioning as a lame duck Parliament since 2016.The Sikhs are perturbed by such autocratic functioning of Premier Modi”s Government.
From the newspapers reporting today’s news it is learnt that President Trump will have no agenda on any economic or defense issues as Premier Modi had declared from Banaras that he and his Government will not budge on its stand on revoking article 370 and 35 A which gives some autonomy to Jammu Kashmir. He also declared that his Government will not talk on Kashmir to solve this vexed imbroglio. He also declared that there will be no rethinking on the recent controversial legislations, such as CAA(Citizen Amendment Act),NRC(National Register of Citizen) and NPR(National Population Register).
All these legislations have led to civil strife, racial, social, religious upheaval. There are 19,60000 Muslims detainees in Assam and the numbers will increase as it is suspected that more minorities, scheduled castes, Tribal’s and Muslims will be declared as non-citizens.
If under the present circumstances President Trump carries out his tour of the Hindu State as per schedule, we do not think that any business will be carried out save for huge crowds brought about through Premier Modi party and by government coercion. Our party therefore opines that Premier Modi has arranged a big “tamasha” or a jamboree, which is a an insult to the visiting dignitary.
The fact that Premier Modi has already declared that there will be no dialogue on the controversial legislations (CAA,NRC,NPR) or Kashmir, our party thinks that it is an insult to President Trump and we liken it to the Ems Telegram which President Trump being of German origin will well understand. Such a visit to Hindu India, under these circumstances will only earn him ill will in his election year.
Since there is turmoil in this country over the right wing, radicalized legislations we suggest that President Trump”s security should be left to his Secret Service and his Air Force to be operational on the Indian Ocean and the Helicopters for internal surveillance.
In the end our party would wish to know the benefits of President Trumps visit? In 2000 when the former President Bill Clinton visited South Asia forty three innocent Sikhs living peacefully in village Chitisinghpura in Kashmir were massacred in cold blood by the Hindu States Army and there has been no investigations of this barbaric act. We do not want any reputation of such misdeeds.
