Premier Gujral was a rank opportunist and a impoverished country like Hindu India can have no Doctrine – Simranjit Singh Mann

Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that the late I.K Gujral was uprooted from his homeland in West Pakistan, like many of us. The difference between the uprooted Hindu’s and Sikh’s was that whereas, the Punjabi Hindu found his nationalism in the newly found Hindu Indian state, the Sikh was left high and dry. The Punjabi Muslim on the other hand found his nationalism in the creation of Islamic Pakistan.
After, 1984 the Sikh politics turned revolutionary and I was made the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) which was not compatible with the majority Hindu Indian state. But our party sympathized with all religious groups of Punjabi’s.
In 1989, General elections to parliament were called and Mr. Gujral’s party and our party fought these elections in a coalition. Mr Gujral won hands down and went to the Lok Sabha for the first time. This coalition of ours sent another member to parliament from Amritsar. He belonged to Mr Gujral’s party.
Since I was released from Bhagalpur Jail after undergoing an imprisonment in solitary confinement, the Hindu Indian press began referring to me as a terrorist, radical, extremist and a separatist .Now the question is why Mr Gujral and his party, who the Hindu state refers to as patriots and nationalist, align and collaborate with our political party to ride on a popular wave with us, and enter parliament ? Though Mr Gujral may have been a good person but before jumping into a coalition with our party he should have seen who he was aligning with? We think that though a good person Mr Gurjral was an opportunist.
During the period Mr Gujral was the Premier, HRH Queen Elizabeth of Great Britian visited South Asia. The main purpose of her visit was to assuage the feelings of the Sikh’s as the Sikh’s had never reconciled themselves to the barbaric Operation BlueStar of 1984, in which the Hindu polity led by Indra Gandhi had attacked the stateless Sikh’s in a trilateral military misadventure consisting the armed forces of UK, the Soviets and its own.
However, Premier Gujral along with his right wing Hindu advisers did not want the British Sovereign to visit Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple at Amritsar), as the Hindu state did not want to expose the damage done to the Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple at Amritsar) by artillery, mortar, helicopter gunfire and other ordinance fire by the trilateral nuclear forces. But the will of Quenn Elizabeth and the Sikh’s prevailed and the Queen visited the Darbar Sahib. Our party felt that Mr Gujral having sought a seat in parliament in collaboration with us had ventured to the extreme right in trying to stop the Queen from visiting the Sikh shrine.
Then it is said that Mr Gujral was the founder of the Gujral Doctrine. It was hardly a doctrine. The Hindu Indian state is always trying to imitate a super power like the USA. If President Monroe of America founded a strategy to keep belligerent European powers away from America and not enter the Atlantic Ocean, which would jeopardize the security of America, was the reason of what came to be known as the Monroe Doctrine. Now, by imitating a great strategy of the USA. talking of the Gujral Doctrine makes poor sense as the power of the Hindu Indian state does not extend beyond its borders and even these borders are contested by Communist China and Islamic Pakistan. Our party has no respect for Premier Gujral as he was a rank opportunist and did not help to solve the Punjab – Sikh imbroglio. Amen.
