The Editor, The Tribune,
Please refer to the article “The Golan gift and its wider implications” in your esteemed newspaper dated 13th April 2019.
If the author, Lt. Gen Sanjiv Langer an ultranationalist, as judged by his resolute support of Israel is of the opinion that the Golan Heights now legitimately belong to Israel and the US’s recognition of this peace of territory by aggression is right, then he must support China’s annexation of 39,000 sq. kms of territory in Ladhak in the skirmish between his country and China in 1962.
Furthermore, if the General talks of UNSC resolutions then he must also accept the UNSC resolution for a plebiscite Kashmir.
Our party’s Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar’s view is that
ultranationalist Generals who have been arm Chair Generals should keep quiet for their country’s sake. Otherwise they have a habit of putting their foot into their mouth.
By accepting the present status of the Golan heights, then his country can no longer claim rights to the Ladhak territory lost to China in 1962.
For the information of the General and The Tribune it must be told that the Lahore Darbar (Sikh Empire 1799 to 1849) annexed Ladhak in 1834. But sad to say his country could not keep that part of Ladhak in one piece and now China will quote the Generals analysis of the Golan Heights to keep the Aksai Chin with it.
Simranjit Singh Mann,
Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar).
