Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that Ms. Bedi has been an IPS officer and must know that a non elected Governor cannot annul the legislations of an elected legislature unless they are ultra vires of the Constitution. Obviously Ms. Bedi must know that she is not running the Police Lines as its officer.
It has been said by a former Prime Minister of Britain- The Earl Baldwin of Bewdley that the exercise of power without responsibility has been the prerogative of the harlot through the ages. We are sure therefore, that in a democracy the Governor is only the head of the state, whereas the Chief Minister heads the Government.
The Governor like the President, however, has three privileges that being the right to be kept informed, the right to advice and the right to warn. As in this country which is believed to have been redeemed from British rule, yet the Hindu leaders that took charge in 1947 adopted the Govt. of India Act 1935 which gave powers to the Governor to dismiss an elected Government which commanded a majority in the legislature.
Now if Ms. Bedi wants to be an autocratic she should wear the British-Indian sun hat, a model of which she must have worn while training as an officer while riding.
