Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that ever since the British introduce the practice of holding censuses every 10 years in their colonial India the Lingayat religion was enumerated separately but in 1951 when the census was held after the Hindu state became independent it swallowed the Lingayat religion into its omnivorous belly as it did Sikhism which it described in its 1950 constitution as a part of Hinduism. Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) totally supports the Lingayat Dharam to be independent as it does not worship Hindu idols or believe in the Hindu mythology. The Sikh’s will stand by the Lingayat’s come what may, through thick and thin, even to the last breath. Let there be no mistake.
