Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that we are sorry to learn about death of this great humanist who virtually eradicated leprosy from Pakistan. Since Dr.Ruth Pfau was a German, our party by paying tributes to her, also recollects the name of another German humanitarian Dr.Albert Schwitzer. He was from Alsace-Lorraine an area which keeps osculating between France and Germany, depending on which of the two is militarily the stronger. Presently this area is in France. Dr. Schwitzer gave his life to working for the very poorest in French Equatorial Africa which is now Gabon. Like Dr. Pfau Dr. Schwitzer devoted all his life to patients of leprosy and other incurable diseases of that day, amongst the very poor African’s of Gabon. We the Sikh’s have recently observed the memory of Bhagat Puran Singh a Sikh who like Dr. Schwitzer and Dr. Pfau devoted his entire life for the welfare of the poor. We send our condolences to the German Ambassador and the Pakistan High Commissioner, both stationed in Delhi on the sad demise of this great humanitarian Dr. Ruth Pfau.
