Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that there have already been a little more than a hundred suicides of farmers and farm labourers and transport workers since the new Congress government came to power in March this year. The suicide rate of these suicides has been rising over the years and we feel the Hindu state has brought about these suicides amongst Sikh farmers to break the back of the Sikh economy. Agriculture and transport business are the main stay of the Sikh economy.
The illiterate Sikh farmers have been introduced to the withdrawal of large bank loans. The banks are under the administrative control of the Union Hindu government. We do not know how these Sikh farmers were allowed to take big loans which the bankers being professionals knew they could not repay. Young Sikh farmers have taken to suicides for not being able to repay a paltry amount of Rs six lacks.
The Union Hindu government has waived off huge amounts of loans taken by Hindu industrialists and businessmen. Why the Sikh Chief Minister’s now and in the past has not been able to convince their Hindu masters that if the Hindu state is secular then why indebted Sikh farmers should be allowed to die and rich and wealthy Hindu be saved from debts they owe. After all in a secular state all are equal. But the Sikh’s are not as equal as this tragedy of suicides unfolds.
