CDS must formulate policy, strategy and tactics and leave the field work to the Chief’s of the three services. Dual loyalty and diarchy will ruin the fighting forces. Simranjit Singh Mann.
The Tribune dated 12th January 2021
Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that the Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat is creating a diarchy in the command of forces which should legitimately be entrusted to the Chief’s of the three services. This will, if General Rawat persist create dual loyalty in the armed forces if he goes about meeting servicemen in the field. The duty of the CDS is to ensure that the fighting forces are equipped with the latest weaponry and above all the officer ranks think of the welfare of their troops. At present the weaponry is obsolete and the figure of this scrap has risen to 67%. The CDS should be thinking and evolving strategy and tactics, provisioning, creating a space force and creating think tanks that can out wit the adversary. He should also be held responsible for the ingress of Communist China’s PLA in Ladakh in April last year and what plans have been made to recover the 39 thousand sq kms surrendered to Communist China in 1962. We wonder whether his present visit to the forward area will result in suitable Arctic clothing and tentage to the forces atop peaks. Will he tell us that the Mountain Divisions have been trained and are efficient in skiing and whether they have snow sledges with Husky’s to patrol like the Royal Mounted Canadian Police. Have these divisions learnt some lessons on high Mountain warfare from Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Russia and Finland. The taxpayer wants a top class military force that will not fight the internal wars of the Union Home Ministry and it will confine itself to guarding the frontiers and the minorities when Governments of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Narinder Modi order their partymen and scalawags to commit the genocide of the Minorities, Schedule Castes and Adivasis or Tribal’s. These are the qualities we wish to see in the armed forces. The CDS must never think on communal lines and never demean the Sikhs, Muslims, Schedule Castes and Adivasis or Tribal’s.
These horrific acts would never have taken place if the armed forces had remained alert and nipped the evil in the bud.
Facta non Verba.
