A partisan editorial written in favour of Russia and it demeans the Hindu Indian state if it wants to be a mediator. Simranjit Singh Mann.

The Tribune dated 28th December 2022.

Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that this is a very strange editorial by The Tribune. It favours the Hindu Indian state to intervene and solve the Ukraine-Russian imbroglio, in which Russia is the aggressor and has occupied the whole of Crimea in 2014 and in 2022 occupied more chunks of Ukraine. It has committed humungous Human Rights violations in the territories it has occupied in Ukraine.

The question is whether the Hindu Indian states mediation will lead Russia to give back to Ukraine the territories it has occupied since 2014 and 2022. This is necessary because Communist China has occupied large chunks of Ladakh territory in 1962 and as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi says that more than 2000 sq kms of territory Communist China has gobbled up since 2020 and some more this year in Tawang in NEFA.

The Tribune editorial also states that Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy has sought $1.8 billion for militarily pushing back Russian aggression. This is strange that the editorial thinks that this aid would further prolong the war. Does the Hindu Indian state and The Tribune want Ukraine to fall and be totally eliminated and consumed into the greedy belly of Russia? Then what credentials will the Hindu Indian state have as a broker?

The editorial also states that the Hindu Indian state should take a ‘strong stand against war profiteering’. But the Hindu state is already engaged in war profiteering as it buys cheap crude oil from Russia, refining it and selling it to other countries. If The Tribune does not understand war profiteering then it should read the book-‘Gone with the wind’ by Margaret Mitchell.

Our party thinks that The Tribune has shown its exterior in writing such a partisan editorial which is a disgrace and shame to journalism and our region.
