Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that this is a serious case in which Hindutva has run rough shod over the law and the constitution, besides human values. We have always said that the BJP-RSS is like Hitler’s Nazi party and capable of committing similar atrocities as in 2002 in Gujarat and presently in Jammu & Kashmir.

The Supreme Court is the guardian of the constitution and it has not stepped in to declare AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act) ultra vires of the constitution as Article 21 states that no person can be deprived of his life and liberty without the procedure laid down by law. Under the law AFSPA the armed forces in Jammu & Kashmir have the power to kill, maim, kidnap, abduct, murder, rape, molest, torture, detain any person for an endless time, with impunity.

We hope the Supreme Court will not act like Rip Van Winkle. Jesus Christ said to the sick of the palsy-pickup thine bed and walk. Could the Supreme Court do just this?
