Goswamy’s death a great loos to Punjab and art lovers, both Oriental and Western. Simranjit Singh Mann, Member of Parliament.

The Tribune dated 18th November 2023.

Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that our party is very sorry and grieved about the death of the most famous Punjabi and world famous art critique, Mr. Goswamy.

Besides been a critique he was also a very good professor and teacher.

He had mastered the Kangra School of Art and beside that he was a very able critique of Western art and a good decipher of the Biblical form of art, which normally is not understood in our part of the world.

We think that the Punjab Governments in India and Pakistan should create a befitting chair in Mr. Goswamy’s memory at their two respective Universities.

Mr. Goswamy and the learning of art must become a lesson in education from class five upwards.

The Kangra School of Art flourished and gained importance in the rule of the Lahore Darbar (Sikh Empire 1799-1849) as Maharaja Ranjit Singh was also a great patron of art and specially the Kangra School of Art. Few people know that he was also married in the Kangra Royal Family and it is the only Kangra Maharani that committed Sati on the pyre of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

Besides his knowledge on Indian and Kangra paintings Mr. Goswamy was also well versed in Medieval Art, Renaissance, Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Modern Art and Contemporary Art.

May Waheguru Sahib bless his soul.
