Comments by Simranjit Singh Mann: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) states that we ask what is so strange that Gen. Zia-ul-Haq admired Lata Mangeshkar. After all he was from Jalandhar.

I admire Gen. Zia-ul-Haq for all the work he did to remove hatred against the Sikhs in Pakistani text books and founded the Pakistan Shioromani Gurdwara Prabandk Committee.

He was a great man.

Now the rightwing Hindu will ask why I admire Gen. Zia-ul-Haq?

I love all of Punjab prior to 1947. However, I did not like the General when he hanged Bhutto as Bhutto was in college with my late brother Manjit Singh Mann at Oxford University and they were good friends. I did not like the Pakistani military killing Nawab Akbar Bugti as he too was a friend of my brother at Atchison College at Lahore. I also admire General Bajwa as he is from a neighbouring district of our family’s home district of Sheikhupura.

After this the fanatics of Hindutva can shoot their poisoned quills at me.
